Aimee Rives

For over thirty years, I have cultivated a career as a working artist throughout Boston and the greater New England area, engaging communities through public art, institutional collaborations, and deeply personal creative work. My background in Art Therapy, with a dual minor in Fine Arts and Psychology, grounds my practice in the belief that art is both a personal and collective healing force. I create from observation, driven by a fascination with the human condition and the universal impulse to make meaning through image, texture, and form.

I am currently a graduate student in Art Therapy at Lesley University and working at my first clinical placement as an art therapist at McLean Hospital. This new chapter deepens the therapeutic foundation of my practice and reinforces my lifelong belief in the transformative power of creative expression.

Earlier in my career, I focused on children’s art, drawing inspiration from my time as a K–8 art teacher in South Boston. Teaching shaped my early creative direction and encouraged a hands-on, experimental approach that informed many of my mixed media pieces and sculptural environments designed specifically for children.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with institutions such as the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Tourism, Boston Redevelopment Authority, Children’s Hospital Boston, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Spaulding Rehabilitation Center, Columbus Hospitality Group, Creiger Group, and L’Attitude Gallery, among others. My work can be found throughout the streets of Boston, in healing spaces, and in private homes across New England.

My current body of work is deeply influenced by my time spent in the natural landscapes of Vermont. Immersion in nature has reconnected me with the long-standing human instinct to respond to the land—a tradition that spans centuries of artmaking. I’m exploring this timeless connection with a contemporary lens, integrating digital media and modern materials into my mixed media practice. These pieces aim to bridge the ancient and the current, offering a fresh interpretation of landscape work that acknowledges both our history and our evolving relationship with the world around us.
